SNL Korea who is an embarrassment to the country, receives major backlash after their mocking behaviour towards NewJeans Hanni (+Nobel Prize Winning Author Han Kang)
[theqoo - hot] SNL who parodied the National State Audit

- The sad thing is that even I, a Korean, would be scared if I went to the state audit. A foreigner who is only 20 years old and not good at Korean, tried to express her opinion, and even if you only look at the content, she spoke very well and responded intelligently, but when you look at this, they make her look funny because they made her seem like she's not good at speaking Korean. As someone who has lived in a foreign country for a long time, this is so bitter. This is real racism. No matter how smart a foreigner is, if she is not good at speaking, people make fun of them.
- What a disgrace to the country...look at their level
- They really need to stop targeting young girls; it's strange that this is a world they market off this type of thing
- Among all those adults, there wasn't a single person who felt strange about doing this?????? Aren't they all crazy about this ridicule?
- I really hate this... This is such a disgrace to our country.
- Anyway, they are the only ones who don't know that their intelligence is low.
- They are insane... There are things to mock and things not to mock.
- Why are they satirizing this? ㅋㅋㅋ They should be doing that towards those powerful company figures instead. Doing that to the victim there isn't satire, it's mockery.
- That's not satire, it's mockery ㅋㅋ Anyone can see that it's xenophobic.
- Is it a joke to take advantage of someone else's misery and make fun of them?
- While addressing cases of workers who are unprotected in the gaps of labour laws, one of those cases involves a foreigner who bravely spoke out in a foreign country. To parody that is just low-level. Hanni spoke seriously the whole time, and expressed gratitude to those who supported her, and the only moment she got emotional was brief. It’s ridiculous to call that just a parody.
- If you think this is not a problem, then you know that there is a problem with your intelligence.
- First of all, it's not fun and just watching it makes me feel like my intelligence is dropping^^….
- As a freelance artist and foreign worker, she went to testify about their suffering, and instead of parodying the company executives or societal power figures who abused them, mocking or belittling the workers or the socially vulnerable, fully deserves criticism. I believe that comedy that looks down on and mocks others is just low-quality, third-rate humour
- A really fucking stupid program
- Hanni's issue was also reported in the Australian news. This is not a light matter.
- Their jokes always target the more vulnerable (they work hardest at mocking women). It’s cowardly, and I really dislike it. Even as someone who isn’t particularly interested in NewJeans or related issues, this is so low that it makes me grimace
- Are they crazy this is racism???? Seriously, those girls are living their lives so fiercely, yet these broadcasting station guys are working so cheaply.
- This is really not it.. She came out with so much courage as an idol..
- I'm really curious about the brain structure of that person who came up with the idea to use this as a joke.
- If you can't hit the nail on the head, then it's a missed comedy.
- In the first place, they shouldn't trivialize foreign pronunciation like that. And if they're going to imitate it, just do it casually. Why are you doing this to Hanni?
- What about Bang Si-hyuk??? They were so scared they couldn't even mention his name, but they openly used NewJeans and Hanni's names
[cafe daum] The people who were satirized by SNL Korea this time
NewJeans Hanni who went to the State Audit
Nobel Prize Winning Author Han Kang
It seems like there are mixed opinions about them imitating Hanni's pronunciation, a foreign member, during the National Assembly audit. Some see it as satire towards lawmakers, while others argue it’s racially insensitive. The reference to the writer Han Kang adds another layer, leaving people confused about the message being conveyed. What are your thoughts on this situation?
COMMENTS
- It's not even funny, they're so pathetic, they're seriously losers... SNL has been consistently making fun of women and creating a negative image, and now they're mocking the first Asian writer to win the Nobel Prize in Literature and even touching a person who had the courage to go to the state audit because of workplace bullying. They are really petty.
- They're just sitting there broadcasting a bunch of low-quality comedy that's not even funny... When I see people laughing at stuff like this, I get the feeling that this country has really fallen to a miserable level.
- They only pick on people who look easy and leave the strong untouched
- The production team and actors should apologise and cancel the show.
- What did writer Han Kang do wrong? They are so low class.
- They are people who did great things for a cause, so is it right to make fun of them? Do you think the people involved would laugh at that? It's unpleasant.
- I really have nothing to say ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ Is that what you call funny?
- In our country, comedians are only at that level, so they think making fun of others is comedy, and they don't have the guts to satirize politics and society like SNL in the US.
- Hanni who was at the National Assembly audit, the Australian embassy said they were aware of the incident and would help if needed, and other countries' media covered it a lot, but since our media is behind and not functioning properly and only spreading hate, do you think this is a funny subject? Openly racist and mocking a Nobel Prize-winning author, what kind of anachronism is this? Since the author is trying to pass quietly, do you really think it's an award that anyone can receive? They're crazy, they've really fallen so low, where do you think the standards of the Republic of Korea will go?
- In Korea, you can hardly find any jokes criticizing those in power. They just attack and mock the socially disadvantaged. They say they are fat, ugly, lazy, incompetent, and they belittle their appearance or mock the weak. The fact that they do jokes that cannot criticize those in power, instead they attack the weak shows the pathology of Korean society in itself.
- The production team doesn't seem to know the dictionary meaning of satire. It's just mockery. It's not funny and meaningless. It's unpleasant and low-level.
- The people who come out here just seem thoughtless and disgusting
- Just leave Hanni alone f*ck..
- They are crazy enough to mock a Nobel Prize winner?
- Ah, I feel dirty watching this. What's really going on? The actors who agreed to do this don't look good either. This isn't the first or second time there has been controversy.
- Hanni really mustered up the courage to go to the state audit, but you're using that as a joke? And why writer Han Kang...? It's just a joke...? Wow, I'm really offended and annoyed.
- Wow seriously... I saw that Hanni thought her Korean was lacking, so she said that if she had to appear again at the National Assembly audit, she would study Korean harder and come? This racism is crazy.. And what on earth did Author Han Kang do wrong?
- Women are trying to make the world a better place, so why are they beating them up and making such a fuss? Aren't all the people at the top of that program fucking assholes???? They only like to drink and the only thing in their heads is dumb shit.
