NewJeans releases full statement after ADOR files lawsuit - "We witnessed our managers and performance directors being severely harassed by ADOR and HYBE"

[theqoo - hot] [Full text] NewJeans “Trust with Hive has already been broken… You cannot interfere with our activities”

date: 06/12/2024

The members of the group NewJeans have released a statement refuting the legal action of their agency, ADOR. They have once again emphasized their position that the exclusive contract should be terminated due to a breakdown in trust.

In their statement on December 6, NewJeans members claimed, “ADOR has failed to adequately argue that no violations of the exclusive contract occurred. Instead, they continue to assert that the contract cannot be terminated until the company's investments are fully recouped.”

They continued, “We have already returned profits exceeding the investment amount to ADOR and HYBE,” and “Despite this, HYBE attempted to slander and ‘negative viral market’ us in order to lower our value, and ADOR aided and abetted this after the management changed.”

The members of NewJeans stated, “A company that produces its own hate comments against its artists is fundamentally untrustworthy,” and “Considering this breakdown in trust, we have come to the conclusion that there is a high possibility that we will suffer more damage in the future.”

Furthermore, they said, “The trust in ADOR and HYBE, who have not even properly fulfilled their duty to protect their artists and have violated the terms of the contract multiple times, has already been destroyed,” and “There is no longer a reason to work with ADOR and HYBE as stated in the exclusive contract.”

Above all, the members of NewJeans said, “We will no longer be affiliated with ADOR as of November 29, 2024,” and “ADOR cannot interfere or step in with our activities.”

They continued, “We are faithfully working on the remaining schedules with ADOR as promised immediately after the announcement of the termination of our exclusive contract,” and “However, we also witnessed the managers and PD (performance director) who were helping with the schedules being seriously bullied by ADOR and HYBE, such as having their laptops taken away and being questioned without notice, and them crying.”

The members of NewJeans said, “We dream of a life together with our fans who love us through healthy music activities. And we definitely want to achieve that dream,” they said. “We want to become courageous and healthy people.”

■ Full statement by the NewJeans members

Hello, this is Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin and Hyein.

We are sorry to be releasing this statement in such a chaotic situation.

We recently heard through the media that ADOR filed a lawsuit against the five of us to confirm that our exclusive contracts are still valid. In their statement, ADOR failed to properly assert that there was no breach of the exclusive contract, and they only repeated the claim that the company’s support and investment were there, so the contract cannot be terminated until they are recovered.

However, we have already returned profits exceeding the initial investments to ADOR and HYBE. Despite this, HYBE has attempted to undermine our value through defamatory actions and negative viral marketing, while ADOR, under its new management, turned a blind eye to these actions. For a company responsible for protecting its artists, producing its own malicious content against us is inexcusable. Considering this breach of trust, we believe we are at increased risk of further harm moving forward.

ADOR and HYBE have repeatedly violated contract terms and failed in their duty to protect us as their artists. The trust between us has been irreparably broken. As clearly stated in the exclusive contract, we are no longer obligated to work with ADOR and HYBE.

The contract explicitly allows for termination if ADOR fails to fulfill its contractual obligations. Despite providing ADOR with a 14-day grace period to rectify the breaches, they failed to address them. As a result, we officially notified ADOR of the contract termination, which took effect immediately.

Despite this breakdown of trust and breach of contract, forcing us to work for another 5 years is not only unreasonable but also inhumane.

We gave ADOR a 14-day grace period and requested that they correct their breach of contract, but ADOR failed to do so at all. Accordingly, we notified ADOR of the termination of the contract in accordance with the exclusive contract, which took effect immediately.

ADOR filed a lawsuit to determine whether this termination was legal, but this was only a procedure to receive confirmation from the court after the fact. We deeply regret that they released a statement misleading the public as if the contract was still valid.

To clarify once again, we have not been under ADOR’s management since November 29, 2024. ADOR has no right to interfere in our activities.

When we read articles from media outlets that announced that they were trying to talk and reconcile on the outside, but then stalked us, slandered us, and spread false information, we couldn't help but feel fear and disgust. However, no matter how much they tried to cause discord, the five of us are united as one, and no one can separate us.

We are faithfully carrying out our remaining schedules with ADOR as promised immediately after announcing the termination of our exclusive contract. However, we also witnessed managers and performance directors who were helping with the schedules being severely harassed by ADOR and HYBE, having their laptops taken away, and being questioned without notice, making them cry. We cannot accept this kind of behaviour toward staff members who are working on their remaining schedules, and it is painful to think that we are not the only ones who are being harmed by this unscrupulous and inhumane company.

Although the road ahead is not easy, we dream of a life with our fans who love us through healthy music activities. And we definitely want to make that dream come true.

Even after the replacement of the CEO, despite the fact that HYBE's various problems were revealed several times, ADOR did not address them, and instead of protecting us, did not demand improvement from other labels that defamed us and spread false information. In addition, we are very sorry that ADOR, who had been consistently making excuses, filed a lawsuit instead. However, we hope that the circumstances that led to the choice to terminate the exclusive contract and the reasons for ADOR's breach of contract will be revealed one by one through the trial.

We want to become courageous and healthy people.

We sincerely thank all of you who have supported us so far, and we ask that you continue to show much interest and love for the five of us.

Thank you.

  • "I feel sorry to be making this statement in such a chaotic situation." They also said they were sorry for making this statement, but they made this statement because even their regular employees are being harassed and having their laptops illegally confiscated by the company. The country is falling apart, and HYBE is trying to ruin these people's lives at the same time, so they had to put out their position. Public opinion won't change no matter what the situation is, so I hope those crazy HYBE bastards just go bankrupt.
  • I wish these pigs of Yongsan would disappear on the same day at the same time.
  • Let's walk only on a flower path, NewJeans. Fighting!!!
  • NewJeans fighting!!!!! I hope those Yongsan pigs die!
  • I think this is the first and last time I've ever hated a certain company this much. HYBE, go down.
  • The Yongsan pigs are the problem
  • Why are they so obsessed with other people's laptops and what are you trying to steal?
  • I hope you guys continue to pursue your dreams with conviction just like you are now. I'll always support you. 🥰
  • They took their laptops again?!
  • Let's go to court and reveal all the things HYBE has been obstructing you guys with, NewJeans Never Die.
  • We must eradicate all social evils in Yongsan.
  • After the termination notice, they even investigated the manager and the performance director? That’s outrageous. Are they going overboard because of the martial law or something?
  • This country is rottenㅜ
  • They're a real gang of thugs
  • That's right the girls must've seen their managers/PDs crying... If that was me I'd feel mentally broken too
  • No, does it make sense for a company to harass its employees like that?
  • Stop bothering NewJeans, what they're doing is too dirty
  • It's so really great that the members are all so close together, hwaiting
  • Wow, they’re committing illegal acts like it’s second nature—following people around, and confiscating laptops. What they’re doing is no different from what’s happening in Yongsan right now
